"Music is the Universal Language"
"Music is the Universal Language. I remember hearing that numerous times during my 3 years in the US Navy 7th Fleet Band. I was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan the majority of my 6 year enlistment, and during that time I traveled to over 15 different countries in South East Asia playing music for people.
It was always amazing showing up to a joint rehearsal with a foreign country knowing we did not speak the same language, but we would all sit down and read and play the same music, all of us understanding time, dynamics, rhythm, notation, etc. No matter what country we were from, a quarter note was a quarter note". Would love to hear from you
Seyi Ogunnaike is a brilliant keyboard player from London. Several months ago she DMed Camellia on Instagram and asked if she would be interested in working on a Afro collaboration with her. Camellia knew Seyi was awesome prior to her reaching out... but she didn't know Seyi played keys for Mr Eazi. A famous African Musician.
Seyi and Camellia recorded this video on different continents. Seyi lives in London and Camellia lives in America. The internet has opened so many ways to easily communicate and share music. Seyi sent Camellia the track she wanted her to drum on, and Camellia sent it back to her with drums! It's magic.
